Summer Reading Post #4

Well I finished Eleanor & Park by: Rainbow Rowell. It was a log journey trying to finish it. I wanted to stop a ton in the middle but just had to keep going. I choose this book because it looked really interesting. I have seen it when we go to the store and have read the back of the book, it was a love story. I love reading love stories but sometimes they can get really boring but this book was very interesting. If I could have done this again, I would have chosen a new book. This book was good but just didn't meet my standards. If I could recommend this book to anyone I would recommend it to girl readers. As I was reading it just didn't seem like a kind of book that a boy would read. Also I would recommend it to someone who likes romance. If you’re a boy and like to read about romance then go ahead and read it, you might find some appreciation in the book. Don’t take my word for it! If you are looking for something to read give this book a chance you might turn out to like it in the end.

Summer Reading Post #3

Wow! Eleanor & Park has become one of the best books I have ever read. It keeps me on my toes waiting for the next thing to happen. When I am reading I like to read books that keep me on my toes because otherwise I will stop reading it because it’s boring or just drags along. During the middle book I wanted to stop reading and choose a new book because it was boring me so much. One part in the book that kept me going was, “If he wanted that now-if he wanted her to beg for forgiveness, for mercy, if that was the price she had to pay to stay-she’d do it. She hoped he couldn’t see that. She hoped none of them could see what was left of her. (Rowell, 154)” This part was the icing on the cake. Eleanor wanted Park so bad she would do anything. I thought it was just so cute! I had to read on to see what was going to happen. Most of the chapters didn’t end in cliff hangers but this chapter did and this one was very good because I wanted to read more. When I read on it was worth it because I found out what happened and in the next chapter there was also another cliff hanger that kept me going. I would let you know what happens but I don’t want to spoil the middle of the book for you. If you are reading this book and feel like stopping don’t! It will get better.

Summer Reading Post #2

As I continue reading Eleanor & Park by: Rainbow Rowell I just get more confused and have so many questions. I wonder what is going to happen between Eleanor and Park because I feel like they have a connection. I know that something is going to happen between them. I think that Eleanor really likes Park and doesn’t want to say anything. I also think that Park has no clue what he wants but not Eleanor right now. I love how Rainbow Rowell making you think and make predictions as you read. I also love the way she has written her book. She writes it just like how teenagers talk and think. I think that is what makes it so easy to connect with. If it is how we talk then it will be easy to understand. I can’t grasp a theme yet because it’s so unpredictable which is making me stay on my toes wanting to read more. I wonder if this story is going to turn into a love story/ true love story because I feel it coming. I can’t wait until I have finished the book because that’s how good it is. When I have read more and some of my predictions are made or not made I will let you know.

Summer Reading Post #1

Well its summer time again and you know what that means, time for the summer reading projects! We had to choose a book from the Printz Award Winner or Printz Honor book list. Out of all my choices I choose the book Eleanor & Park by: Rainbow Rowell. I have read a little more than half way through the book and so far I really like it. I can also relate to it really well which is good for me when reading a book. The main setting of the book is in the past in 1986 at school. In the beginning of the book there isn't a major conflict but there is a little bit. There are two main characters in this book. The main two characters are Eleanor and Park. Eleanor is a red hair girl. She is very quiet and the new girl. Park is a boy who doesn’t talk much and would rather keep to himself. I don’t know that much about it but that they are total opposites. The first time they meet was when Eleanor had to sit with Park on the bus. If I had to make one predication I would think that these two would fall in love. I hope they do, because opposites attract!

Wonder

I have just started the book Wonder. I thought that it was going to be a hard book to get into but it's was so easy. I love this book and never want to put it down. I love how it keeps you wondering because they don't tell you what Auggie looks like. So I actually have to imagine what he looks like instead of have a description. I wish more authors would write like this.

Auggie is just about to start 5th grade and his mother had home schooled him ever since now. She thinks that him getting out there, being around and meeting new people will be good for him. I think that it will also be good for him. Auggie doesn't want to because he is afraid that people are going to stare at him and make fun of him. I think that it is going to be good for him and that he should go to school. It doesn't matter if people stare. People stare at me all the time. You don't have to be or look perfect to fit in.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Well this is the second book that I started reading then stopped in the past week. I guess I can't find a book to get into. After I read Heaven is for Real and My Story I just can't find a book that I am into right now. My English teacher Mrs. Palmer and one of my friends Elle told me that the book Wonder by: R.J. Palacio. I bought this book just recently and was going to wait until the summer to read it. If I had to recommend The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants  I would recommend it to anyone who loves to read about a good friendship movie and that you haven't seen the movie.

According to Common Sense Media says, "Parents need to know that this book's emphasis on strong, supportive girl friendships may inspire readers -- and provides some nice counter-programming to clique lit's "frenemies." The characters do make some bad decisions, but they grow from them. There's some sexual content, language, and some pretty intense emotional stuff. Teens living out their own coming-of-age stories will likely get the most out of this book." Read More?

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

I quiet my book Looking for Alaska By: John Green. I quiet this book because it just wasn't the right book for me. It was so boring and just made me want to stop, so I did. It didn't have any good detail that made me want to keep going. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good book to read. If you are looking for a new book to read and you like to read about friendships and just girl life, then i have the perfect book for you. Read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by: Ann Brashares. I am just getting into this book and I can tell that I already going to love it. This book keeps me on my toes excited to hear what is going to happen next. I know what your thinking, this book is already a movie. But you can read the book and as a "Treat" for finishing the book watch the movie. Well at least that is what I like to do.
This book so far is about 4 girls that are best friends. They are best friends because there mothers all a yoga class while they were all pregnant at the same time with girls. Seeing where they are now is crazy. They four girls in the story are, Lena, Tibby, Bridget, and Carmen. I can't relate to any of them yet. But I hope that as I get into the book I will soon find someone I can relate too.

Looking for Alaska

I am currently reading Looking for Alaska by: John Green. After I read The Fault in Our Stars by him saw this book and have heard that this book is a really good book. As I started it was really good and really long. I've been reading it and gave it some time but now it is so boring, so long that I just want to stop reading it. I thought about this earlier but said that I had to keep reading and try and stick with it, but I just can't anymore. It's not interesting anymore and I have lost total interest.

This weekend I got to see Heaven is For Real with one of my really good friends. I wanted to see it so bad that she finally told me that I needed to go see the movie after I read the book. It was crazy because while I was reading it I knew that all the sad parts were coming but during the movie I didn't see it coming. It got me the whole time. I have to admit I really did like the movie but the book was much better. It went into so much detail that made me understand it better. But I like visualizing it better. I would defiantly recommend that if a book was going to become a movie that you should read the book before or don't read it. If you read it after then you will know everything and have nothing to look for in the end.

Finished Heaven is For Real

I am so happy to say that I finished my book Heaven is For Real. It was by far the best and most wonderful book I have ever read. It was amazing to see how a little 4 year old boy could get through all that at such a young age. I can't explain my emotion about it right now because it was so crazy. It was a book that I finished in 1 and a half weeks and too me that was a very good time amount. Coming from me who doesn't like to read but this book changed me which is very good.

When you first start reading this book you think that it is made up and there is no way it could be true. Believe me I know that's how I felt too. As I went on there were so many things that Colton say that made me believe it was true. Some of the things that he said were:

  • "He nodded, eyes bright. 'Did you know that Jesus' cousin's name is John.'"
  • "'It was big, Dad... really really big, because God is the biggest one there is. And he really, really loves us, Dad. You can't belieeeeve how much he loves us!'"
These were the first two lines that made me think. He couldn't have known all this for being 4 years old, it would have been crazy if he did. That is when I said this has to be true it cant be a lie.

If I had to rate this book I would give it a 5/5 because it was so well written and kept me on my toes. I love books that keep me on the tip of my toes and it was one of those books. It was so neat to see how someone could have overcome that major injury and had a great experience coming out of it. I don't know what I would do if I was in his shoes, I guess it would be hard for me. If you are looking for a new book to read I highly recommend this book. I promise you won't regret it!

Heaven Is For Real

I have never been a fan of reading but ever since I have started reading Heaven Is For Real I have loved reading. I don't wanna put my book down I just want to keep reading. Everyday in class we get 10 minutes to read and I used to think that it was the worst time of that class, but now I want more time. It's crazy how one book can change your reading habits. I am on Page 60 out of 180 and I hope to finish the book this weekend so I can go see it. It is also really action packed not with fighting but going from the hospital to another just keeps you on your toes.

I don't want to just give you a summary because then I would be giving the book away and you might not have read it yet. I don't know what I could say about this book. If i had to describe it so far in one word I think it would be WOW. I don't know how a little boy could be going through all of this at such a young age. If I was his age I don't know what I would do because it would be crazy and they have so many hospital bills that you don't know how to pay for it would be very stressful that is all that I am saying. If you are looking for a new and good book this book will keep you on your toes!

New Book!

I am so happy to say that I finished my book. After a long time of reading it, I finally got into it. I read it over spring break from page 100-380 in 2 days. I was kind of surprised cause normally I don't spend my time reading. I would give it a 5 out of 5 stars. It was so powering that I cried at the end. It was really cool to see how she got out and got to see her family. I also loved the way she wrote, her language was amazing and she used so many pieces of figurative language. Most of the time you would think that people would run if they got kidnapped but surprisingly that didn't happen and I was so shocked. Also after reading I watched many videos of her giving speeches and it was crazy I couldn't get up and do that in front of people.

I was watching TV and saw the movie trailer for the book Heaven is for Real.  Just by watching the trailer moved me to want to read it. I just started yesterday and I'm not that far into but it is so cute! What I know so far is there is a little boy named Colton and Cassie. They are very young and not in school yet. They like each other which is surprising because most brother and sisters get in fights. This is all that I know so far but I'm sure if you watch this trailer that you will be moved to read the book.

Living Conditions

I have recently seen my English teachers blog and have talked to her. She has given me great advice that will really help me write a well developed blog! So shout out to Mrs. Palmer for her advice!

In the book I am currently reading I have noticed that the living conditions are not so good. As I have been reading more and more I have noticed that they have gotten worse since Elizabeth just starting living there. They was a scarce amount of food, having to live in a tent and sleep on the dirt. I couldn't take it. There are many lines that Elizabeth writes to show that the living conditions weren't so good.

Some of them include:
  • "She'd leave me there, cabled to the trees in the middle of the mountains. I would die, alone, starving, and out of water." (p.110)

  • "After he crawled out of the tent, I lay alone. The sun was up, but it was still early and the thick trees provided heavy shade, keeping it cool inside. I lay on the dirty blankets, curled in a fetal position, the linen robe pressed against my waist." (p. 47)

  • "Over the nest nine months, Brian David Mitchell would rape me every day, sometimes multiple times a day. He would torture and brutalize me in ways that are impossible to describe, would starve and manipulate me like I was an animal." (p.46)

Based on just these three lines you can tell that her life right now is not okay. It's not safe and healthy for  a young girl to be living here. When she said that she had to live in a tent with dirty blankets that made me feel so gross. She didn't have anyone to wash them for her, like her mom probably would. She didn't have anyone to turn too. Based on just these short 3 lines you can tell that you wouldn't want to be in her situation.

How Does this Relate to Society?

If you really think about it kidnappings and rape is a major issue in today's society. It's happening all over the world and so many kids getting affected by it. There was one major story about a girl named Amber who was kidnapped. It was the worst one that people have seen and since that, they created a system called "Amber alert". This is when a child or adult has gone missing and it alerts everyone to look for you. This is a very good system because this happens almost everyday. You could turn on the news and there is a new story everyday about a girl who got raped and beaten or a kidnapping. It is crazy and I don't understand how people could do that!

This does actually relate to the book I am currently reading. Elizabeth was kidnapped and they put out an alert for her and had people search even had helicopters searching for her. But they couldn't find her. She couldn't run she couldn't do anything. Which this is really upset because she didn't deserve that! She was a little girl and no little girl deserves that. Once it happens it will never be forgotten you will always be scared and wanting to hide. You can't say if its going to happen you never know. Also ever since i have heard about major stories just learning about a place not too far away, its the scarriest thing I could ever think about. Read more?

Most Powerful Line

I just got half way through my book and its amazing! Yet I'm a slow reader I can't put it down. When I was reading I found a quote that just spoke to me. It was so powerful it shocked me! Its so short but yet so little words can make it so powerful. It was right when Elizabeth was getting taken from her house and Brian David Mitchell said that god told him to do this. She said to herself, "We can choose to be taken by the evil. Or we can try to embrace the good. " This quote was used perfectly in this scene and she used it so well. It could have been interpreted many different ways but in the book it was used to to explain what Brian and Elizabeth were thinking.

This quote could be used in my life if I really wanted it to be. It could also be used in many different situations. The way I would fit this quote is if your about to do something bad or make a bad decision. You could look at this and say I want to do it, but do I really have to. That is when you need to sit back and think about your decisions. I know if I would have know this I would have to think about it. I've made bad decisions that I should have thought more into. Don't we all do that?

I don't really like reading that much and I just want to start a book that is going to make me want to read more! Fahrenheit 451

We finished reading the book Fahrenheit 451. This book is about a society that makes fires instead of putting them out. The main character is a man named Montag who believes that his job is shady. He doesn't understand why they burn books. He started wondering this after they went to a house where a lady burned in the house with her books because she loved them so much. I know that I would die in my house because I had books. I would get out!

I believe that what these people were doing was crazy! I don't like to read, I mean it's okay but I wouldn't Burn books so that everyone in the society is the same person. I think that is a crazy idea. Wouldn't you want some people to be smart, or know more things than others? That gives people value. If our society was like this today I don't know what I would do. It would be so boring to live like that. I wish that they would make another book of this because I want to know if they found Montag. I had so many questions at the end of this book. My main question is did they ever let people start reading?

My Story

I am still in the proses of trying to finish My Story by Elizabeth Smart. I have a goal to try and read 20+ pages a week. This book is so amazing I can't take it, It's that good. I always wondered how life would be so young to get kidnapped and raped. This book lets know know the hardships of it. Having no food, no one to tell them they love you. Elizabeth goes through this hard times for 9 months and I wouldn't be able to do it. I would have to run away or scream.

Elizabeth was gone for 9 months and went the day without eating all 3 meals you need a day. She went from getting good nights sleep to getting no sleep at night. She went from being happy to teriffied. And she went from having a good day with family to getting raped everyday. How does she do it? Thats what I want to know. I couldn't do it I would have to run. This girl is amazing.

The Fault in Our Stars (Con.)

This just came out! I am so excited to go see this movie! Based on when I read this book I think that it's going to be the same but with some more elements. The characters look the same that the discriptons says in the book. I can't wait! Click on the video to watch the offical trailer and you will be hooked. If you havent read it yet please go read it!

This picture is a picture of Esther Earl. She was who John Green dedicated his book too. Esther was a 15 year old girl with  thyroid cancer who died in 2010. Hazel played the role of Esther in The Fault in our Stars, John Green made Hazel look just like her and have the same kind of cancer. When John Green found out about her, he just had to meet her. Esther blogged about her cancer and the life that she was living with the diffictulties and the easiest times. When John Green fisished his book it was Janurary 10th 2012. But poor Esther had already gone. If John Green could have had one girl to read it, it would have been her. Then I found out that she had a booked and flipped out.
I really want to read it. Its called This Star Won't Go Out: The Life and                                                 Words of Esther Grace Earl. Im going to hopefully read it soon and ill                                                  let you know how I like it.

All about Elizabeth Smart

I continued reading my book and I can't stop reading it. She keeps you waiting on your toes wanting to find out more about her kidnapping. Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped at the age of 14 when Brian (her kidnapper) in her bed in the middle of the night when she was right by her sister. Brian said as she got out of bed, "If you make a sound, I will not only kill you but your family." Elizabeth didn't know what to do so she didn't make a sound. If I was in her shoes I would have no idea what to do, I would probably scream and try to hurt him. I don't know how she could do it for 9 months! My mom always told me not to talk to starangers and that if anyone that I didn't want to touch me did. THen scream.

In this part Elizabeth said one of my favorite quotes she has said, "We can choose to be taken by the evil. Or we can try to embrace the good." She always kept saying that in her head as she goes through this very harsh journey that would be hard for any 14 year old to do. As she goes on this journey she gets abused and raped by this man that her family gave her work! It's so hard for her to realize that this is happening and all she can do is pray. If I was her I couldn't do it i would have to try and escape or scream.

Elizabeth Smart

I am currently reading My Story by: Elizabeth Smart. This book is also based on a true story. I am just in the beginning of this book and so far it's really good. I choose this book because I watched a documentary on her and once I saw she had a book I just had to have it. All though I am not that far into I can already tell that she is going to be a well devolved character by going through hard challenges. Evn though she gets kidnapped I think that when she gets found she is going to have such a better life. Her family is still going to love her even if she thinks they wont.
Elizabeth Smart is a little girl who was kidnapped. She was kidnapped by a man named Brian David Mitchell who her family gave work to do. As he was working he studied the family and way to get it and what time based on thee schedule. As Elizabth stayed with him she got abused and raped by him. I don't know how she could do it. I mean the man got into the house through a window for crying out loud! That is shady. Then he trying to tell her that god put him up to this, I just dont understand. I don't want to give too muchy away so make sure this is youtr next book to read.
