The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

I quiet my book Looking for Alaska By: John Green. I quiet this book because it just wasn't the right book for me. It was so boring and just made me want to stop, so I did. It didn't have any good detail that made me want to keep going. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good book to read. If you are looking for a new book to read and you like to read about friendships and just girl life, then i have the perfect book for you. Read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by: Ann Brashares. I am just getting into this book and I can tell that I already going to love it. This book keeps me on my toes excited to hear what is going to happen next. I know what your thinking, this book is already a movie. But you can read the book and as a "Treat" for finishing the book watch the movie. Well at least that is what I like to do.
This book so far is about 4 girls that are best friends. They are best friends because there mothers all a yoga class while they were all pregnant at the same time with girls. Seeing where they are now is crazy. They four girls in the story are, Lena, Tibby, Bridget, and Carmen. I can't relate to any of them yet. But I hope that as I get into the book I will soon find someone I can relate too.

Looking for Alaska

I am currently reading Looking for Alaska by: John Green. After I read The Fault in Our Stars by him saw this book and have heard that this book is a really good book. As I started it was really good and really long. I've been reading it and gave it some time but now it is so boring, so long that I just want to stop reading it. I thought about this earlier but said that I had to keep reading and try and stick with it, but I just can't anymore. It's not interesting anymore and I have lost total interest.

This weekend I got to see Heaven is For Real with one of my really good friends. I wanted to see it so bad that she finally told me that I needed to go see the movie after I read the book. It was crazy because while I was reading it I knew that all the sad parts were coming but during the movie I didn't see it coming. It got me the whole time. I have to admit I really did like the movie but the book was much better. It went into so much detail that made me understand it better. But I like visualizing it better. I would defiantly recommend that if a book was going to become a movie that you should read the book before or don't read it. If you read it after then you will know everything and have nothing to look for in the end.

Finished Heaven is For Real

I am so happy to say that I finished my book Heaven is For Real. It was by far the best and most wonderful book I have ever read. It was amazing to see how a little 4 year old boy could get through all that at such a young age. I can't explain my emotion about it right now because it was so crazy. It was a book that I finished in 1 and a half weeks and too me that was a very good time amount. Coming from me who doesn't like to read but this book changed me which is very good.

When you first start reading this book you think that it is made up and there is no way it could be true. Believe me I know that's how I felt too. As I went on there were so many things that Colton say that made me believe it was true. Some of the things that he said were:

  • "He nodded, eyes bright. 'Did you know that Jesus' cousin's name is John.'"
  • "'It was big, Dad... really really big, because God is the biggest one there is. And he really, really loves us, Dad. You can't belieeeeve how much he loves us!'"
These were the first two lines that made me think. He couldn't have known all this for being 4 years old, it would have been crazy if he did. That is when I said this has to be true it cant be a lie.

If I had to rate this book I would give it a 5/5 because it was so well written and kept me on my toes. I love books that keep me on the tip of my toes and it was one of those books. It was so neat to see how someone could have overcome that major injury and had a great experience coming out of it. I don't know what I would do if I was in his shoes, I guess it would be hard for me. If you are looking for a new book to read I highly recommend this book. I promise you won't regret it!

Heaven Is For Real

I have never been a fan of reading but ever since I have started reading Heaven Is For Real I have loved reading. I don't wanna put my book down I just want to keep reading. Everyday in class we get 10 minutes to read and I used to think that it was the worst time of that class, but now I want more time. It's crazy how one book can change your reading habits. I am on Page 60 out of 180 and I hope to finish the book this weekend so I can go see it. It is also really action packed not with fighting but going from the hospital to another just keeps you on your toes.

I don't want to just give you a summary because then I would be giving the book away and you might not have read it yet. I don't know what I could say about this book. If i had to describe it so far in one word I think it would be WOW. I don't know how a little boy could be going through all of this at such a young age. If I was his age I don't know what I would do because it would be crazy and they have so many hospital bills that you don't know how to pay for it would be very stressful that is all that I am saying. If you are looking for a new and good book this book will keep you on your toes!

New Book!

I am so happy to say that I finished my book. After a long time of reading it, I finally got into it. I read it over spring break from page 100-380 in 2 days. I was kind of surprised cause normally I don't spend my time reading. I would give it a 5 out of 5 stars. It was so powering that I cried at the end. It was really cool to see how she got out and got to see her family. I also loved the way she wrote, her language was amazing and she used so many pieces of figurative language. Most of the time you would think that people would run if they got kidnapped but surprisingly that didn't happen and I was so shocked. Also after reading I watched many videos of her giving speeches and it was crazy I couldn't get up and do that in front of people.

I was watching TV and saw the movie trailer for the book Heaven is for Real.  Just by watching the trailer moved me to want to read it. I just started yesterday and I'm not that far into but it is so cute! What I know so far is there is a little boy named Colton and Cassie. They are very young and not in school yet. They like each other which is surprising because most brother and sisters get in fights. This is all that I know so far but I'm sure if you watch this trailer that you will be moved to read the book.

Living Conditions

I have recently seen my English teachers blog and have talked to her. She has given me great advice that will really help me write a well developed blog! So shout out to Mrs. Palmer for her advice!

In the book I am currently reading I have noticed that the living conditions are not so good. As I have been reading more and more I have noticed that they have gotten worse since Elizabeth just starting living there. They was a scarce amount of food, having to live in a tent and sleep on the dirt. I couldn't take it. There are many lines that Elizabeth writes to show that the living conditions weren't so good.

Some of them include:
  • "She'd leave me there, cabled to the trees in the middle of the mountains. I would die, alone, starving, and out of water." (p.110)

  • "After he crawled out of the tent, I lay alone. The sun was up, but it was still early and the thick trees provided heavy shade, keeping it cool inside. I lay on the dirty blankets, curled in a fetal position, the linen robe pressed against my waist." (p. 47)

  • "Over the nest nine months, Brian David Mitchell would rape me every day, sometimes multiple times a day. He would torture and brutalize me in ways that are impossible to describe, would starve and manipulate me like I was an animal." (p.46)

Based on just these three lines you can tell that her life right now is not okay. It's not safe and healthy for  a young girl to be living here. When she said that she had to live in a tent with dirty blankets that made me feel so gross. She didn't have anyone to wash them for her, like her mom probably would. She didn't have anyone to turn too. Based on just these short 3 lines you can tell that you wouldn't want to be in her situation.

How Does this Relate to Society?

If you really think about it kidnappings and rape is a major issue in today's society. It's happening all over the world and so many kids getting affected by it. There was one major story about a girl named Amber who was kidnapped. It was the worst one that people have seen and since that, they created a system called "Amber alert". This is when a child or adult has gone missing and it alerts everyone to look for you. This is a very good system because this happens almost everyday. You could turn on the news and there is a new story everyday about a girl who got raped and beaten or a kidnapping. It is crazy and I don't understand how people could do that!

This does actually relate to the book I am currently reading. Elizabeth was kidnapped and they put out an alert for her and had people search even had helicopters searching for her. But they couldn't find her. She couldn't run she couldn't do anything. Which this is really upset because she didn't deserve that! She was a little girl and no little girl deserves that. Once it happens it will never be forgotten you will always be scared and wanting to hide. You can't say if its going to happen you never know. Also ever since i have heard about major stories just learning about a place not too far away, its the scarriest thing I could ever think about.
