New Book!

I am so happy to say that I finished my book. After a long time of reading it, I finally got into it. I read it over spring break from page 100-380 in 2 days. I was kind of surprised cause normally I don't spend my time reading. I would give it a 5 out of 5 stars. It was so powering that I cried at the end. It was really cool to see how she got out and got to see her family. I also loved the way she wrote, her language was amazing and she used so many pieces of figurative language. Most of the time you would think that people would run if they got kidnapped but surprisingly that didn't happen and I was so shocked. Also after reading I watched many videos of her giving speeches and it was crazy I couldn't get up and do that in front of people.

I was watching TV and saw the movie trailer for the book Heaven is for Real.  Just by watching the trailer moved me to want to read it. I just started yesterday and I'm not that far into but it is so cute! What I know so far is there is a little boy named Colton and Cassie. They are very young and not in school yet. They like each other which is surprising because most brother and sisters get in fights. This is all that I know so far but I'm sure if you watch this trailer that you will be moved to read the book.

Living Conditions

I have recently seen my English teachers blog and have talked to her. She has given me great advice that will really help me write a well developed blog! So shout out to Mrs. Palmer for her advice!

In the book I am currently reading I have noticed that the living conditions are not so good. As I have been reading more and more I have noticed that they have gotten worse since Elizabeth just starting living there. They was a scarce amount of food, having to live in a tent and sleep on the dirt. I couldn't take it. There are many lines that Elizabeth writes to show that the living conditions weren't so good.

Some of them include:
  • "She'd leave me there, cabled to the trees in the middle of the mountains. I would die, alone, starving, and out of water." (p.110)

  • "After he crawled out of the tent, I lay alone. The sun was up, but it was still early and the thick trees provided heavy shade, keeping it cool inside. I lay on the dirty blankets, curled in a fetal position, the linen robe pressed against my waist." (p. 47)

  • "Over the nest nine months, Brian David Mitchell would rape me every day, sometimes multiple times a day. He would torture and brutalize me in ways that are impossible to describe, would starve and manipulate me like I was an animal." (p.46)

Based on just these three lines you can tell that her life right now is not okay. It's not safe and healthy for  a young girl to be living here. When she said that she had to live in a tent with dirty blankets that made me feel so gross. She didn't have anyone to wash them for her, like her mom probably would. She didn't have anyone to turn too. Based on just these short 3 lines you can tell that you wouldn't want to be in her situation.

How Does this Relate to Society?

If you really think about it kidnappings and rape is a major issue in today's society. It's happening all over the world and so many kids getting affected by it. There was one major story about a girl named Amber who was kidnapped. It was the worst one that people have seen and since that, they created a system called "Amber alert". This is when a child or adult has gone missing and it alerts everyone to look for you. This is a very good system because this happens almost everyday. You could turn on the news and there is a new story everyday about a girl who got raped and beaten or a kidnapping. It is crazy and I don't understand how people could do that!

This does actually relate to the book I am currently reading. Elizabeth was kidnapped and they put out an alert for her and had people search even had helicopters searching for her. But they couldn't find her. She couldn't run she couldn't do anything. Which this is really upset because she didn't deserve that! She was a little girl and no little girl deserves that. Once it happens it will never be forgotten you will always be scared and wanting to hide. You can't say if its going to happen you never know. Also ever since i have heard about major stories just learning about a place not too far away, its the scarriest thing I could ever think about. Most Powerful Line

I just got half way through my book and its amazing! Yet I'm a slow reader I can't put it down. When I was reading I found a quote that just spoke to me. It was so powerful it shocked me! Its so short but yet so little words can make it so powerful. It was right when Elizabeth was getting taken from her house and Brian David Mitchell said that god told him to do this. She said to herself, "We can choose to be taken by the evil. Or we can try to embrace the good. " This quote was used perfectly in this scene and she used it so well. It could have been interpreted many different ways but in the book it was used to to explain what Brian and Elizabeth were thinking.

This quote could be used in my life if I really wanted it to be. It could also be used in many different situations. The way I would fit this quote is if your about to do something bad or make a bad decision. You could look at this and say I want to do it, but do I really have to. That is when you need to sit back and think about your decisions. I know if I would have know this I would have to think about it. I've made bad decisions that I should have thought more into. Don't we all do that?

Fahrenheit 451

We finished reading the book Fahrenheit 451. This book is about a society that makes fires instead of putting them out. The main character is a man named Montag who believes that his job is shady. He doesn't understand why they burn books. He started wondering this after they went to a house where a lady burned in the house with her books because she loved them so much. I know that I would die in my house because I had books. I would get out!

I believe that what these people were doing was crazy! I don't like to read, I mean it's okay but I wouldn't Burn books so that everyone in the society is the same person. I think that is a crazy idea. Wouldn't you want some people to be smart, or know more things than others? That gives people value. If our society was like this today I don't know what I would do. It would be so boring to live like that. I wish that they would make another book of this because I want to know if they found Montag. I had so many questions at the end of this book. My main question is did they ever let people start reading?

My Story

I am still in the proses of trying to finish My Story by Elizabeth Smart. I have a goal to try and read 20+ pages a week. This book is so amazing I can't take it, It's that good. I always wondered how life would be so young to get kidnapped and raped. This book lets know know the hardships of it. Having no food, no one to tell them they love you. Elizabeth goes through this hard times for 9 months and I wouldn't be able to do it. I would have to run away or scream.

Elizabeth was gone for 9 months and went the day without eating all 3 meals you need a day. She went from getting good nights sleep to getting no sleep at night. She went from being happy to teriffied. And she went from having a good day with family to getting raped everyday. How does she do it? Thats what I want to know. I couldn't do it I would have to run. This girl is amazing.
